Mare De Vetro: Luxe Sustainable Jewellery That Doesn’t Break the Bank

July 31, 2024
Introducing our new favourite sustainable yet affordable jewellery and accessory brand, Mare De Vetro which exudes class and top-tier cruising Italy vibes.

If you’re anything like me, you have that girl you follow on Instagram whose style you want to emulate and whose glitzy life you want to steal away in the night. The girl that is always wearing the most amazing accessories in their posts, so we zoom in and think, wow that looks so elegant. Then we go to their comments, where they’ve posted the link to the brand with a pink heart emoji. We follow the link gleefully, only to find the simple gold necklace they’re wearing is flying off the proverbial shelf for hundreds of dollars. Maybe in the distant future, we think, we will have that simple gold necklace, when we have our own successful career and go to long brunches on a weekday.

Turns out, we need not despair. Let me introduce you to your new favourite jewellery and accessory brand, Mare De Vetro which exudes class and top-tier cruising-northern-Italy-on-a-wood-panelled-boat vibes.

Surprise, surprise, their pieces are even better than they look when you’re window shopping. Founded in 2020 by mother-daughter duo Raylene and Angela Boulter, and found tucked away in a boutique in Windsor, QLD, Mare De Vetro aims to design effortless statement pieces that come with sustainable production, an affordable price tag, and an undeniable air of sophistication. Essentially, jewellery and accessories for the sustainably conscious, stylish woman, with an average, everyday income.

Their specialty: summer by the beach, with old-money class. Murano glass and pearls sourced from the South Pacific and beyond capture the feeling of heading to Europe for summer, or maybe having just got home and casually bragging about the souvenirs you stumbled across in the South of France.

All of their creations are sustainably made, with components including pearls, metal and semiprecious stones all locally and responsibly sourced. The design and production process prioritises sustainability right alongside luxury look and feel.

Take one of their latest drops: The Grappa Purse. This sleek, elegant bag is made in Australia with the repurposed pulp, skin, seeds and stems of grapes. The traditional look and durability of leather, but without the guilt niggling in the back of your mind about the practices of making traditional leather.

The Grappa Purse, from $89. Shop here.

Buying a Mare De Vetro piece means buying something to wear forever. This is thanks to both their timeless designs and durable quality. A plated gold ring may feel like a smart choice to save a few dollars at the time, but when your finger inevitably goes green and the ring rusts and breaks, you’ll have to find another one. We all know this adds up, however much we try to ignore it. Buying a quality piece from a luxury, sustainable brand like Mare De Vetro is an investment in your own style and sense of self, putting your best foot forward when you put on your new favourite pair of earrings.
