Three Bottles, Better Skin: MADLABS Beginner’s Guide to Men’s Skincare

When I was first offered the chance to write a review on men’s skincare my instinct was to decline. Having seen what my wife goes through each morning and evening and the amount of time, effort and consistency she dedicates to her skin was something that struck me as overwhelming. Countless bottles, ointments, creams and moisturisers. Tasked with the simple job of passing one along, my brain can only piece it together by asking which shape or colour she is specifically referring to.

Hence, the nervousness in eventually taking on the task of reviewing a skincare line. However, to my pleasant surprise the products provided by MADLABS have been nothing short of simple, sharp and refreshing. Rather than having a carefully curated step by step procedure that I needed to follow precisely, I instead have three manly glass bottles with three different purposes.

  1. Face wash
  2. Exfoliator
  3. Moisturiser

You might laugh and think that’s only scratching the surface of what it takes to look after your skin properly, and you might be right. What it is though is an easy, friendly gateway into looking after your skin as a male without it being time consuming or coming with some of the stigma attached to it. Packed with clinically proven ingredients, it delivers high performance in each product, making it simple for men. In fact, it’s had such a positive effect that I no longer view any of it as a chore, but rather a part of my daily routine.

So let’s talk about the products individually.

Deep Cleaning Facewash

For far too long I had no idea that using body soap was not an acceptable way to wash your face. Once again, say what you want but nobody taught me that growing up. I apply the facewash daily and sometimes twice depending on the day and its activities. It’s easy to use during your shower and only takes a couple of pumps before you gently rub it into your face and rinse off. It’s gentle, liquidy and glides across your skin, giving it a smooth and clean feel. Exactly as it should.

Pore Refining Exfoliator

The exfoliator for me was the most confusing and again, that was because I’d never really gone through the process of it. Using it twice a week, spaced by about 3-4 days at a time I was able to notice some dramatic differences. For me, it left my skin feeling extremely clean and pinched. Consider that phrase to be a running theme along with the next – it made me feel a lot more confident in my skin. The texture of the exfoliator is liquidy and it glides across your skin as you apply it. Upon rinsing it off, the aforementioned clean and pinched feeling arrives and it is wicked.

Anti-Aging Moisturiser

Finally, we have the moisturiser. I use this now religiously twice a day. As I previously mentioned, it feels as much a part of my daily routine as brushing my teeth now. I use this to start my day and before I sleep. It only takes a few small squirts of it to cover your face and like the other products, does not come with that unsettling cream feeling. The liquid base gives you a wet face sensation before it quickly dries and settles in after you apply it thoroughly through your skin. My T-Zone (which is something new I’ve also learnt) has been thanking me for adding this to my schedule.

Now I know that if you’re just working your way into the world of skin care that sometimes the prices can be very jarring. Forget it when it comes to these products. They have such an effortless application process and provide such a great level of confidence to myself that I am happy to fork out the extra money to look after myself.

Final review

To summarise, I cannot recommend this product enough. Whether you’re a man stepping into the unknown of skincare, someone more experienced looking to simplify your routine, or a partner gently nudging the man in your life to take better care of his skin, MADLABS has considered every possible conundrum. The brand is built around one clear goal: creating products that make skincare seamless, straightforward, and sharp in application. Although this was a trial for myself, it has become a part of my schedule that I am unwilling to let pass and will continue with moving forward.
