Red light therapy gets discussed all the time online—is it the next best thing? What does it even do? It might seem like the type of products geared towards influencers—it’s expensive and funny to look at, but it also claims to boost collagen production, reduce wrinkles and increase skin plumpness.
For a skincare lover who takes anti-aging seriously, it’s the ultimate staple.
When I was sent CurrentBody Australia’s Red Light Therapy Mask, I was curious. I’ve never been a skincare nerd, but I put it to the test for several weeks. Here’s my honest review—the good, bad, and the reality.
Before diving in, it’s important to know where I’m starting from. I don’t have wrinkles or visible fine lines (yet), and my skin is naturally plump. In other words, I wasn’t the perfect test subject for claims like “reducing wrinkles by 30%” or “boosting plumpness by 57%.”
That said, I was interested in whether it would help maintain my skin’s current condition, brighten my complexion, or simply feel like a worthwhile addition to my routine. Prevention is a huge part of skincare, and many people invest in products like this not for instant correction but to keep their skin looking youthful over time.
Still, I want to be clear: if you’re someone without visible signs of aging, like me, the results may be much harder to notice.

Unboxing & First Impressions
The first thing you notice about this mask is the presentation. It comes packaged like a luxury gadget — sturdy, glossy, and heavy in the hands. You can tell it’s an expensive piece of equipment before you even turn it on.
Design-wise, it looks futuristic (think sci-fi movie character), with a smooth plastic shell lined with LED bulbs on the inside. I was pleasantly surprised by how comfortable it was to wear. It’s lightweight enough that it doesn’t press too hard on your face, and the straps keep it in place without digging in.
The instructions were simple, and the controls were intuitive. It didn’t feel intimidating or overly technical, which I appreciated. Within minutes of unboxing, I was ready to start my first session.
Using the Mask
The recommended use is a few times per week. I found the sweet spot for me was slipping it on in the evenings before bed, almost like a wind-down ritual. The mask has an automatic timer, so all you have to do is sit back and relax.
While wearing the mask, there’s a gentle glow inside that makes you feel like you’re in a tiny spa capsule. I didn’t notice any heat, stinging, or tingling, it was completely painless and surprisingly relaxing. Once you get past the initial novelty of looking like a glowing robot, it actually feels meditative.
The main “inconvenience” is simply carving out time. Ten minutes doesn’t sound long, but you’re essentially sitting still with limited vision while wearing the mask. I usually paired it with a podcast or calming playlist, which made the experience more enjoyable.
Charging was straightforward, and the mask held battery well, so I didn’t feel like I was constantly plugging it in.

The Results
Here’s where I need to be honest: I didn’t see dramatic changes overall, but I did notice one subtle improvement. My under-eye area looked a little brighter and less tired after a few weeks of use. It wasn’t a night-and-day difference, but enough that I felt my skin looked fresher in that specific area.

Before and after of using CurrentBody’s LED Mask for 10 minutes a day for a duration of four weeks.
Beyond that, I didn’t see any changes in my skin’s plumpness or fine lines (which, to be fair, I don’t really have yet). My complexion remained hydrated, but it wasn’t transformed.
On the plus side, the mask never caused irritation, redness, or breakouts; it was completely gentle. That made it easy to stick with the routine and enjoy it as a calming ritual.
I kept thinking: maybe the benefits are more long-term, and this isn’t about instant gratification. Will my upcoming fine lines and wrinkles be prolonged with long term use of the mask? Or maybe the mask is simply more effective on people with visible aging concerns, where changes are easier to spot. For me, it felt more like a self-care ritual than a results-driven tool.
Final Thoughts
It’s comfortable, safe, and I did notice a subtle brightening effect around my under-eyes, which was a pleasant surprise. That said, beyond that small change, my skin looked much the same as it did before, which makes it harder to justify the steep price tag.
I see it more as a luxury ritual than a transformative product. If anti-aging is your main concern, or if you’re willing to splurge on a futuristic self-care tool, it might be worth considering.
