Five Makeup Trends in 2025 That Will Dominate Your FYP

December 31, 2024

For anyone with access to social media over the last couple of years (so… all of us), it has been near impossible to miss the beauty and makeup trends that regularly take over our feeds. These trends prompt thousands of makeup enthusiasts to redefine their skills and upgrade their product collection to keep up with the professional MUAs and makeup-obsessed content creators. From the barely-there ‘no makeup makeup’ and the Clean Girl aesthetic (that seems to show no signs of slowing down, thanks to Mrs Bieber and her supermodel besties), to the re-emergence of Y2K that hit us with waves of nostalgia disguised in pastel blue eyeshadow and glossy lips, certain trends in the beauty world move fast, with others persevering through the changing seasons.

Prepare your kit for the New Year with our guide to the makeup trends in 2025 that will dominate your FYP, pre-determined by celebrities and makeup artists working backstage at the most talked-about runway shows – because the influence from Paris and New York doesn’t stop with fashion.

Here are 5 makeup trends to try in 2025:

Pastel, Peach & Pomegranate

Just in time for balmy summer days, orange and pink hues are skyrocketing in popularity, giving you the perfect excuse to play with new shades of bronzer and blush.

POMEGRANATE

We can thank Sabrina Carpenter for our current blush obsession, where her signature placement high on her cheekbones and layered products see rosy cheeks as the common trend at every beauty event.

Moving into 2025, ‘strawberry makeup’ (made popular by Rhode’s ‘Strawberry Glaze’) is making way for ‘pomegranate makeup’ – think Sabrina’s famous flushed cheeks, but a little darker, and a little moodier. The perfect tone for all skin types, but particularly stunning on darker complexions, pomegranate blush pops in all the right places, and the rest of your makeup can be kept fresh and clean to let the blush do the talking.

An OG cheek and lip tint, Benefit’s cult product Benetint is the perfect pomegranate wash when built up, while Rare Beauty has ‘Grateful’ in their Soft Pinch Liquid Blush range for a more intense payoff. Both products can be dotted onto the centre of the lips for a beautifully considered and cohesive makeup look.

Peachy

If pomegranate feels too bold or dark for your complexion, make it peachy! Peach was Pantone’s colour of 2024, and we have already begun to see this cutesy colour making its way into makeup launches from the biggest cosmetics companies.

Peachy blush and bronzer make any makeup look fresh and summer-inspired, and this forgiving colour can easily be used on the eyes for a seamless, monochromatic look. From MAC’s ‘Melba’ and Mecca Max’s Off-Duty Blush Stick in ‘Sorbet’ to Dior’s Rosy Glow blush in ‘Coral and ‘Amber Pearl’ eyeshadow palette, the world is your peachy-toned oyster.

We firmly believe any eyeshadow combo can be worn with any eye colour, but since blue and orange sit on opposite sides of the colour wheel and are therefore complementary – expect those baby blues to pop when paired with a wash of peach.

Add a shimmer to your peachy eyes for a golden goddess vibe, and pair it with a bold coral lip or neutral nude to suit your skin tone and keep it cohesive. Highlighter is back in a big way, too – so layer up the glow and be prepared for compliments!

Bold Blues

Drawing from the recent embrace of Y2K and 90s red carpet looks, blue is back, baby.

Seen across multiple runways in recent months, including Tove and Chet Lo, blue is getting a moment in the spotlight, with solid washes of blue eyeshadow and mascara getting the tick of approval from luxury makeup artists and designers.

Not far removed from the icy blue lids your mum might have rocked in the 70s, this trend is easy to adapt to your style.

Sweep a pastel blue across your entire eyelid, blend into your crease and below the bottom lash line for a cute and unexpected pop – we love Triennial Wave from MAC Cosmetics for a flush of cobalt. A creamy formula – like this one from Victoria Beckham Beauty – will give a solid colour payoff, while the creamy formula makes it a breeze to blend with your finger.

If you’re not quite ready to jump head-first into bold blues, take a baby step and keep things chic with a muted navy, which looks oh-so-classy when kept close to the lash line and gently diffused out for a barely-there smokey eye.

Merit Beauty’s ‘Midnight’ single shadow is navy perfection, and the Satin Kajal eyeliner in ‘Navy Noir’ from Victoria Beckham Beauty is a must-have for a sultry waterline.

Chrome on Chrome

Modern smokey eyes and grungy eye makeup have seen gunmetal grey and metallic silver swept across eyes on recent runways, and the result is striking.

As is the way with inspiration from the shows, it doesn’t have to be a literal interpretation, with more subtle looks seen on high street models and content creators from washes of silver shimmer on the eyes, soft chrome on neutral nails, and glossy highlights on the high points of the face. Strong inner-corner highlights in icy silver or champagne tones are tipped to be one of the biggest trends in 2025 – they add a stunning sheen to your eye look without going too OTT.

If you want to get experimental, try a few glittery gems – even the Chanel runway saw some creative looks, with bold black eyeliner dotted with diamantes for dazzling glam.

Ready to try the glittering glam for yourself? Bobbi Brown’s Longwear Shadow Stick in ‘Moonstone’ is champagne perfection, and the Lid Lustre in ‘Mirror‘ from Victoria Beckham Beauty is a stunning silver topper that effortlessly elevates any eye look.

Fresh Faced

Many of us hoped the viral ‘Clean Girl’ aesthetic would stick around for a while, and great news for those who prefer to keep their look light, as barely-there makeup is most definitely here to stay.

Keep your base coverage light and fake a hydrated and dewy complexion with a glossy highlighter balm on the high points of the face for glassy, plump skin. RMS Beauty’s Living Luminiser is heavenly for a glowing sheen that blends seamlessly with your base products.

Blot lipstick for a soft tint and ditch the heavy overlined lips. Add a touch of gloss for an instant plump, and tie in your blush with a soft wash of a natural ‘blushing’ shade.

Ditch the mascara, feather and lightly fill in your brows, and spot conceal where you need it. Sometimes, simplicity is best.

Lollypop Lips

Blurred and ultra-glossy, ‘lollypop’ lips are making waves. It’s been a trend in Korean Beauty for a while, but after making appearances at major Fashion Week events, it’s hit the mainstream beauty junkies.

Inspired by how lips look after sucking on a strawberry lollypop for a while, or even how an actual lollypop looks with its glistening sugar, you can recreate this using your finger or a fluffy eyeshadow brush. Press your favourite lip tint or matte shade into the centre of your lips, then gently diffuse the edges for a seamless finish.

Top with a hydrating clear or tinted gloss (we love Lanolips Glossy Balm) for a deliciously sweet pout. Try shades like cherry, pomegranate, or plum for a bold statement, paired with fresh, minimal makeup for balance.
