If I’m being completely honest, the state of my hair is typically the last thing on my mind when getting ready for the day. My usual list of priorities is as follows: outfit, skincare, makeup, and finally – hair. This is partial to my lack of understanding towards my hair’s needs. Despite my locks remaining untouched by any dyes or chemical treatments over
This latest alluring and jealousy-inducing trend has left me questioning how hard it really is to achieve the “glass hair” look. What are my current products not doing, that Sydney Sweeney’s is?
According to luxury hair care brand Kérastase, I’m not alone in my doubts. Their recent survey data found only 42% of Australians are “extremely confident” that their current haircare products are right for them – with Gen Z coming in last at just 30%.
Given this confusion, it can be difficult to understand what your hair actually needs – and even harder to understand the real reason behind those stubborn dry and frizzy strands.
Kérastase’s recent survey also highlighted the key factors Australians were unaware of to cause hair damage, with 27% of surveyors reporting they were unaware of the effects “hard water” can have on their hair health.
“Hard water” contains high levels of naturally occurring calcium and magnesium, which Kerastase explained as “an unexpected cause of hair symptoms such as breakage and frizz.”
This exact issue is what Kérastase’s new ‘Première’ collection is formulated to combat – and might just be the key to achieving the currently trending “glass hair” look.
The range features key ingredient citric acid, which Kérastase’s National Education Manager Andrea Bryceland explains to “deeply eliminate excess calcium”, in turn neutralising “the dullness and stiffness of hair”. Glycerin and peptides can also be found in the ingredient list, to “dramatically reduce breakage” and “create smoothness and softness”.
In an attempt to achieve the “glass hair” look and better understand my temperamental locks, I have tried and tested Kérastase’s entire 6-step Première collection – here are my honest thoughts and opinions.
Première Intensive Repairing Treatment
Unlike most hair care routines, Kérastase’s Première collection offers a pre-shampoo treatment designed to thoroughly remove excess calcium, before even beginning with your shampoo. Their Decalcifying Repairing Pre-Shampoo Treatment boasts an ingredient list of 8% pure acids, which claims to “recreate 99% of hair’s original strength”. Upon usage, its gel-like texture effectively loosened my knotted waves in preparation to transform my hair to reach a glass-like finish, holding to account the product’s mentioned benefits to “reverse stiffness and dullness”.

Première Decalcifying and Repairing Hair Shampoo
One of my biggest pet peeves when it comes to shampoo products is when they don’t provide adequate foam. I personally love to lather my hair in an absurd layer of suds – and Kérastase certainly didn’t disappoint. Their Decalcifying and Repairing Shampoo provided exactly what it claimed: a gentle yet effective deep-cleanse, to adequately remove any calcium buildup on my scalp. This is paramount when attempting the “glass hair” trend – after all, reflective glass shouldn’t show any smudges! This second product in their Première collection is said to reconnect broken keratin links, whilst purifying and cleansing the scalp with its lush foaming quality.

Première Anti-Rigidity Decalcifying Repairing Conditioner
Third in their Première collection, you’ll find Kérastase’s Anti-Rigidity Decalcifying Repairing Conditioner. Despite its intimidating name, this conditioner is simply designed to restore elasticity to the hair. Building upon Première’s prior products, I found this conditioner left my hair feeling untangled, supple and moisturised. Its ingredient combination of glycerin, peptides and citric acid is designed to effectively remove calcium, leaving the hair feeling strengthened and nourished – which glass hair certainly cannot live without.

Première Repairing Mask
Given my evident lack of haircare knowledge prior to this review, Kérastase’s Première Repairing Mask is the first to claim my hair mask virginity – but I’m not complaining. The rich yet lightweight formula contains Première’s anti-breakage filler, for an added moisture penetration after conditioning. It’s no secret one of the keys to the “glass hair” trend is ensuring your hair is properly moisturised before styling, so this mask is a must have when it comes to attempting the trend. As an added bonus, Its scent is parallel to that of a luxurious salon, which ticks an added personal criteria box of mine.

Première Intensive Repairing Serum
Arguably one of the most crucial steps in achieving the “glass hair” look comes down to the products you use at the time of styling. Intended for use on wet to dry hair, the leave-in Première Intensive Repairing Serum claims to provide 72 hours of anti-frizz wear, whilst acting as a protective shield for heat styling of up to 230 degrees. As a girl with naturally wavy hair, once blow-dried my hair usually can’t help but become frizzy within a mere 2 hours of styling. However, this is where Kérastase stands apart from any other products I have tried – as my hair remained sleek and shiny for over 5 days after this product’s use. To say I’m impressed would be an understatement.

Première Repairing Hair Oil
As the last product in Kérastase’s Première collection, they offer their Repairing Hair Oil to be used as a final step in your “glass hair” routine. This oil is said to provide a “dual-action approach” in restoring split ends and strengthening hair fibres, claiming to provide 4x shinier hair. After its use, I can say this final product not only effectively sealed in the moisturising and decalcifying qualities of the prior Première products used but provided my hair with a sleek reflective glass quality I have been searching for.

When used in conjunction with one another, Kérastase’s Première products simplify your hair’s needs when it comes to reducing calcium buildup and restoring all kinds of damaged hair. If you resonate with my earlier hair care confusion, I would encourage you to try out Kérastase’s Première collection to properly understand what your hair really needs – and to finally stop gawking at creators showcasing their “glass hair” on TikTok.
Now, you can achieve it too.
