For the founder of fragrance brand EMBUED Studio, this experience was particularly noticeable after stepping away from demanding corporate roles. Suddenly, the unstructured time felt unnatural and foreign. Years of being productive, solving problems and thinking about the next step infiltrated into her night routine, and she found that stopping this habit wasn’t easy.
EMBUED Studio grew from this tension between wanting to switch off and struggling to leave the day behind. Founded in Melbourne in 2025, the brand explores how fragrance can mark the transition between the demands of the day and the time that belongs to you, bringing the atmosphere of a different place into the familiar surroundings of home.

Rather than following a prescribed idea of what relaxation should smell like, the founder wanted to explore how fragrance could evoke different atmospheres and experiences beyond the usual expectations of bedtime scents.
That choice reflects a broader idea behind the collection: there isn’t one universal scent or ritual that works for everyone. EMBUED Studio takes an open-ended approach, allowing fragrance to feel personal rather than like another step in a bedtime routine.
The idea is not that a particular scent will make you fall asleep, but that it can become a small sensory cue that tells you the day is winding down. The mists can be sprayed over pillows and bedding or into the air, becoming a simple part of the evening.

EMBUED Studio has also created playful online experiences, from personality quizzes to a detective mystery investigating the suspicious death of an empty pillow mist bottle. The fictional investigation comes complete with suspects, motives and a rather unexpected culprit.
These experiences aren’t designed to improve anyone’s sleep score or help them become more productive; they’re simply there to make someone smile. It’s a small but deliberate part of the brand’s personality. Not every moment needs to teach us something, improve us or serve a purpose. Sometimes, a little nonsense is a perfectly good use of time.
